Jolly Old St. Nicholas

Sadie and Santa
Last year we made the infamous mistake of waiting until the last minute to go visit Santa at Baybrook Mall. It was probably the week before Christmas, during the evening when people were off work, that we picked to go. Yikes. The line wrapped around and all the way back into another section of the mall. We actually had a couple of spots in the line for mall traffic. Well, we learned our lesson then! No wait for us this year! We went about the first week or so of December. Daddy and Granddaddy met me, Sadie, and Gammy at the mall. She was dressed in her red Santa dress Gammy bought for her. We parked outside of Macy's and walked through the men's department. She quickly noticed a giant dog statue on our way in and needed to stop and pet him and share a hug.
Hi! Goggy!
"Awwwwwww Pat. pat."
We finally made it out of Macy's and to the Santa display by the giant decorated tree (which takes the place of our favorite fountain for penny-throwing at this time of year). There were only about 5 people ahead of us, which made for perfect timing for James. We had just enough time to take a few pictures together as we waited a couple of minutes.

Sadie dancing and laughing
"CHEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!!!!!"
Sadie wanted to put her gloves "govvvs" back on for Santa
CHEESE! :)
When it was finally time for Sadie to round the corner and see her friend, Old St. Nick, she grew a little worried. She looked at Daddy and said, "Hold you, Daddy!" Daddy gave her a hug and we both held her hand over to the jolly old elf. What really helped was the little elf Santa had ready and waiting for Sadie! It looked remarkably similar to one Gammy had at one point! ;o) As soon as we pointed out that Santa had a tiny doll for her, she carefully walked over to the bearded man. She took it and said softly, "Tank to, Santa" (Thank you). I then asked if she could sit on Santa's lap to give him a hug and say thank you for the doll. She said, "Yes. Do." With a little help, she was up on Santa's lap in no time. Although she sat strangely quiet and seemed almost stunned, there were no tears and she seemed proud of herself when she climbed down.
Look! Santa has a doll for you, Sadie!
Imagine 4 adults encouraging Sadie, "Say CHEESE, Sadie!!!"
Look, Sadie! Your picture with Santa!
Mmmm....Salad
After leaving the mall, we decided on Olive Garden for a dinner location. Sadie was hungry and enjoyed every bite of bread stick and salad before her meal. It was hilarious to look around and spy strangers stunned at the sight of a tiny toddler digging into a salad better than people 15 times her age! She was delighted and ate almost an entire adult portion before her spaghetti and meatballs came out. She enjoyed that too carefully pulling noodles through her tiny rosy lips.

My Spaghetti!
Slurp it up, Sadie!
When we returned home, Sadie was excited and filled with energy. She played peek-a-boo in the door, put her elf on the tree, and then did a little painting. What a fun night and big success for little Sadie!
Peek - a - boo! Who's there?
I think I'll put my elf right here.

Now for a little painting!
