Hold onto your Levis people! It's rodeo time in Houston! One of our absolute favorite times of year for toddler fun, the rodeo always proves an entire day of activity and fun all meant for children and adults alike. Before leaving, we always like to have a little photo shoot while the light is good.
Sadie cracked us up on this shoot as she started trying to mimic the poses I suggested. Me asking her to put her hand on her hip turned into a sassy pose of her own. CHEEEESE!
Instead of walking for miles, we opt to ride the metro buses from the park and ride locations. Sadie was thrilled. She was allowed to sit like a big kid in the chair (by herself!) all the way there. I think she enjoyed this activity more than we ever could have dreamed possible!
With no one in line for the petting zoo (Yay! They were all at the concert!) we made a beeline over there and watched as Sadie brushed a llama's hair and pet many a goat. She especially liked petting any animal that would sit still. I don't blame her. Petting butting or jumping goats must be terrifying when you're toddler size!
Sadie also enjoyed getting to pet a black furry bunny. She was very gentle as she has had much practice being gentle with our own furry tricolor family member, Mia the Chihuahua. :)
One thing I love about the rodeo is how kid-friendly it is. Unlike Nutcracker Market. Let's face it. Nutcracker Market is for kid-less moms, whereas rodeo is for all sizes of families. As a mom, I have really come to appreciate the little activities they have for the tiny tots to promote interest and learning regarding the field of farming and agriculture. How cool that you can live in a metropolis and still be exposed to wonderful things like this! Our friend, Bill Holcombe (Mr. 4H himself!) would be so proud of Sadie as she enjoyed the kids exhibit teaching her about where all of her food comes from. She may only be interested right now because they are handing out stickers, but you have to start educating them when they're young, right?! :)
One of the most hilarious images of the day was Sadie milking a fake cow. That's right. They had a life-size "milk"-producing fake cow for kids to milk and then smile for a picture. Sadie was really intrigued and happy to have her turn. She smiled so big her eyes looked closed from her loud, "CHEEEEESE!" She then made sure to let us all know, "Sadie milk a cow!!!"
There was also a really cool display with dirt, giant lady bugs, and the like where you could learn about bugs and even plant your own sunflower seed. We decided to plant our little seed, but I steered clear of the "touch the worms" section. Just a little too much for me. Perhaps next year Sadie and Daddy can enjoy that one together. Yikes.
