Sadie's First Haircut EVER!

The time had finally come to say goodbye to Sadie's childhood pigtails! Oh sure, we'll see them make an appearance here and again in the future, but it was her signature look for a long time! As soon as she had enough hair to pull into rubber bands, it was the only haircut she really "allowed" to stay in! We opted for "Cool Cuts for Kids" after realizing what awesome lengths they go to in order to make first time customers feel at ease. As we walked in, the first thing they did was let Sadie pick out a video to watch during her haircut. She picked Minnie Mouse. Then, she was led over to a bright red fire truck seat.

Out her rubber bands came, as Minnie and Mickey happily danced on a TV screen in front of her. They had her put on a blue "princess cape" - a blue wrap for falling hair, but Sadie loved it. We then looked on her "baby hair" for the last time before her hairstylist got to work! Even when taking her rubber bands out, her hair still bounced upward in what was left of her pigtail fashion earlier that day.

As soon as she started to cut her hair, Sadie exclaimed, "LOOK! Sadie a haircut! Daddy! Sadie get a haircut! Mommy! Sadie get a haircut! Gammy! Sadie get a haircut!" She was beyond excited and proud of the whole experience. Between looking at the mirror at what they were doing and watching Minnie Mouse on parade in front of her, she was having the time of her life. I thought, "Maybe I should considering getting my haircut here too!" What fun!

It was so strange to watch that first snip fall to the floor. It aged her immediately! She looked like she was ready for kindergarten already! Gammy and I immediately started stressing over where the hair was falling and if the lady was saving it. She was so patient and polite (and obviously accustomed to CRAZY moms and grannies, as she saved it before it even hit the ground for us to keep.

After cutting it, she blew it dry to complete some dry cutting and Sadie seemed to enjoy it. Even with all that spray and blow dry, we could still make out the "dents" from her pigtails. So cute. All grown up with tiny little reminders of her "youth' standing at attention before our very nostalgic eyes.

After Sadie was finished, she posed for Gammy, and received a cute purple bow in her hair, she then was allowed to pick out a lollipop! Gammy also bought her a cute little flower detangler brush for those stubborn after-bath knots. She looked all grown up and we said goodbye to Gammy and whisked her away to show off her new hairdo to Su Su, who was recovering from her foot surgery at home. So cute and such a memorable first haircut! Good job, Sadie!
