For April 29th, 2012 we decided to celebrate me turning 30 by spending time with family. We were slated to have a party a week later. We were not even sure leading up to it if that would even happen with the incredible poison ivy happening on 2012. Thankfully, everything turned out OK, and we were able to get all of our celebrating in that we desired. We had a lovely lunch at the Nature's Market and Cafe in Friendswood, just around the corner from our house. As it was a Sunday, it was a great meeting location for us and Mom and Dad coming from Heights Baptist Church in Alvin, where Dad serves part time. Later that day we met the whole gang (Gammy, Granddaddy, Su Su, Poppy, Daddy and Great Granny) for cake and presents. However, before all that fun, we headed to the Lake to try out Bacchus Taverna, a great Greek food restaurant in Clear Lake.
The food was delicious. I had chicken kabobs and they brought a dessert birthday baklava. Sadie was extra excited because she saw a cat on the patio at least twice. Nothing more fun than random animal visits during dinner, right?
When we got home, Sadie enjoyed playing with the balloon Gammy brought over and then we opened presents and had some cake. One of my favorite memories of the night had to be Sadie singing for us all the way back from the restaurant. We recorded it since it was too dark for camcorder and laughed all the way. She did her full repertoire, Twinkle Twinkle, Mary Poppin's Let's Go Fly a Kite, Sadie Lady (Great's song for her) along with many others. So fun.
Some of the cool gifts received were an owl bell for outside from Great along with a gorgeous skirt that can be a dress or skirt! Su Su and Poppy gave me a beautiful brown "tutu" skirt, earrings, and a gorgeous new trash can! My dad said you know you're getting old when you become that jubilant over a trash receptacle. Sadie really enjoyed my tutu and demanded I put it on as she ran into her room to get hers. We matched which is the ultimate cool thing to do when you're two and a half, you know. Sadie also really enjoyed my new trash can. She figured out how to open it with her foot and enjoyed watching the lid slowly fall back down into place. She looked for every bit of trash she could find to throw away that night.
James' present was very thoughtful. He knew I had been interested in some boots a while back, but could never seem to find a pair that looked like "me." He found these beautiful ones and had them ready in the right size for my skinny little legs. Still bearing the scars of my postbellum poison ivy battle, I was thrilled to give 'em a go. Perfect fit and just my style! Thank you, James!
My cake was extra special as Gammy let Sadie decorate it with her. She loved doing the icing and dropping the sprinkles all over the cake. However, her most favorite part of birthdays is singing and blowing out candles. Isn't that everyone's favorite? It was a fun night with family and I really do feel blessed to have experienced so many blessings in just 30 years. I am thankful for all God has given. Here's to the next glorious season of life.
